RSPO Product Type List

Introduction

Dear RSPO Members and prisma users,

RSPO is requesting your feedback and input on the RSPO Product Type List ver1.0 document, which has been published for a 30-day public comment period from 17 October 2025 to 14 November 2025.

For context, the current list of products certified for production, purchase and sales through the RSPO Supply Chain Certification (SCC) Standard across the entire RSPO supply chain, as registered in prisma, currently stands at over 6,000 individual products, increasing at a rate of some 800 products each month since February 2025. While streamlining these existing products and their descriptions into a more concise, usable, and manageable Product Type List is a crucial necessity, it has also been a challenge.

This offers an important engagement point between RSPO and RSPO stakeholders, as your views and comments provided during this public comment period will be used to support an upcoming trial implementation of lists in prisma, expected to be launched by end-November 2025.

Establishing an expanded yet structured RSPO Product Type List is also required to address other relevant issues that have been raised by RSPO Members and prisma users, including:

  • Limited traceability functions in prisma available for sites beyond the refinery level
  • Limited list of tradable certified RSPO products within the prisma Trade module
  • Concerns on confidentiality risks and proprietary information in the current list of certified products in prisma

This effort is supported by a directive from the RSPO Standard Standing Committee (SSC) issued in July 2025 on enabling voluntary traceability beyond refineries, and is supervised by the RSPO Supply Chain Certification (SCC) Standard Review Task Force to be aligned with the SCC Standard review and the parallel revision process.

Documents for Review

The RSPO Product Type List is intended to function in a similar manner to the FSC Product Classification addendum to FSC Standards and is expected to be eventually published as a standalone RSPO Document acting as a supplementary document to RSPO Standards.

Please note that the RSPO Product Type List is meant to be continuously updated over time after launch, to cater to new certified products made available through RSPO SCC Certification and adjustments/revised to better align with business operations or market conditions.

The RSPO Product Class Version 1.0 and RSPO Business Type Version 1.0 lists are expected to be published as part of the revised RSPO SCC Standard to ensure that the Standard and prisma are aligned.

Next Steps

Your feedback and input will be used to improve the RSPO Product Type List ver1.0 into a refined ver1.1 for use during the trial implementation. The trial implementation itself is intended to address these issues in prisma through a controlled and structured manner, without replacing any existing, concurrent, or alternate functions that are already in use by prisma users.

The trial implementation will be available on an optional basis for RSPO Members and prisma users who have an immediate need for, or wish to make use of, the expanded trial functions. Internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are in development for the prisma Helpdesk and the RSPO Secretariat teams to guide, advise, and support RSPO Members and prisma users who wish to use the trial functions, which include:

  • Announcements and Trace* functions available for post-refinery sites in the prisma Physical Trade Reporting module, to be used as optional or as required for business operations.
  • Conversion rights granted to post-refinery sites in prisma by request to the prisma Helpdesk, for conversion of input Product Types into output Product Types.
  • Remapping of existing stock management, and product list within the prisma Trade module (including Physical Trade Announcement, Stock Management, Conversion, and Trace functions) of sites and RSPO Members who wish to use the trial functions. Requests for such remapping or alignment with the RSPO Product Type List ver 1.1 may be submitted to the prisma Helpdesk.

* This includes the updated Trace function that can be extended to non-members of the RSPO by application for a prisma Registration ID by request to the RSPO Secretariat. Please see the July 2025 announcement for details

Further details on the Trial Implementation will be published ahead of the rollout date, expected by end-November 2025.
